Wind Farm Petition at 10 Downing Street

Latest Update

After months of behind the scenes activity by some of the Battle Committee and our team of legal advisors the last few weeks has seen some remarkable developments

After winning our objection to the original planning decision, the government initially wanted to limit the scope of the new enquiry to just two days, with the same inspector, who would not consider any new evidence. However, our legal team’s endurance has now secured a FULL new enquiry with a NEW Inspector. This is great news and means we can offer any evidence including the results of new research and findings about the effects wind farms can have on people and communities.

New Evidence

There is much new evidence to report since the last enquiry

• Studies from around the world about noise and related health issues have been conducted and consequently some countries are now insisting on minimum setback distances of 1 mile or 1.5Km between wind farms and residences. This should apply to Bradwell too!

• The outer turbines if built will have to have aviation lighting causing light pollution that we are lucky enough not to have in this area at present

• The last enquiry took no account of the amount of electricity that will be generated in relation to the huge environmental impact it will have in this special area.

• As you will be aware Bradwell is one of the areas designated for a new Nuclear Power station if the government go ahead with this plan, plus the 48 wind turbines being built off the coast at Gunfleet Sands surely says that we are “doing our bit” towards creating green energy. The site is due to be in full production by 2010.

• Wind Shear was not taken into account in the last enquiry. This is important as the wind speeds at the height of the turbine blades can be faster than speeds closer to the ground. Higher wind speeds make blades turn faster and create more noise than predicted by measurements taken closer to the ground. So previous noise readings could easily be grossly underestimated

Please try and find the time to voice any new objections and concerns you may have as this will demonstrate that the villages of Tillingham and Bradwell are still opposed to the wind farm as strongly as they were before.

The New Enquiry

The new enquiry is scheduled to take place in July and Battle and the legal team have enlisted qualified experts to state the case and provide convincing evidence why the Inspector should reject the proposal.

Lottery and Donations

Battle is grateful for the previous generous donation which has enabled us to continue this fight on your behalf. We still have a substantial amount of funds left but the government only allowed us a partial reclaim of legal expenses from the original challenge and whilst our legal team are doing a fantastic job, we all know how expensive any legal and expert advice can be. Therefore we will still need to raise more money and any donations will be very gratefully received. As mentioned in the previous campaign – any funds left at the end of this long battle will either be divided and a percentage returned to the donors who gave large sums of money or donated to the local school or local charities.

The BATTLE Lottery has been successful in producing much needed funds. Since its start in December 2005 the lottery has raised £12,861.10 of which £2572.22 has been paid out in prizes. Far better odds than the National Lottery! The more people who subscribe the bigger the monthly prize.
If you have not already joined the Lottery and wish to do so please contact Shirley Dewick on 01621 776581 or by e-mail shirley@dewickequestrianarenas.co.uk and ask for an application form. You can subscribe in units of £2 per month and each unit gives you one chance of winning, so £6 per month will increase your chances threefold.

Continue Supporting Please

If you have any ideas for promoting our fight, evidence for the enquiry or raising more funds please contact Shirley on the above number immediately. Remember this development will affect us all. This could be our last chance to stop this development we cannot waste it.

Please check our website www.bradwell.info regularly, events could move quickly and getting a newsletter out to everyone is a time consuming and costly exercise. This will be our first point of contact.

The People of Bradwell and Tillingham are taking a high court action to prevent this windfarm project going ahead. While the idea of renewable energy is something we can all understand, it cannot be right that we pay with it with our heritage. Bradwell and Tillingham are two villages less than one hour from London, where people can come and experience true peace and quiet. The Campaign to Protect Rural England proved it was one of the last places of true tranquility in such close proximity to London.

Besides hosting an annual pilgrimage these are villages where people regularly come for a short break, while for others it is the place they take their annual family holiday.

If the court case is successful, then we will have preserved this historic and beautiful site for other generations. Any contribution you can make, no mater how small will be gratefully received and spent entirely on the court action. If we win and are awarded our costs we will refund any unused contributions.
